Ding Dong Osama is Dead

How is this:

Different from this?

What a magical year and a half it’s been

“It’s a win for everybody in the world, the free world, and hopefully we’ll have some more wins,”
“This was a kill operation,” the official said, making clear there was no desire to try to capture bin Laden alive in Pakistan.

It really makes me sad that the only thing people in this country can agree on politically is that a vengeful assassination is something to celebrate. Osama Bin Laden is our Emmanuel Goldstein, our face to hate.

There was no evidence ever released that Osama had anything to do with 9/11, no evidence of his whereabouts since, and no evidence (yet) of his death. Some of us are weary of the “would we lie to you?” mentality by our leadership, but we would be those few quiet folks in the front rows of the video above. Meanwhile, I look at a president with record low approval ratings, 3 wars thousands of miles from US soil, a mountain of debt and a diminished credit rating, and an economy that is going no where fast. I see liberals cheering next to conservatives while their flawless leader assassinates not only a hated enemy, but his entire family?

As a Penn State Alum, it made me sad to see the masses cheering and partying over the brutal retaliation we took this weekend. Part of me knows (as a PSU Alum) that most were simply seizing the opportunity to get drunk and cause a ruckus. This is how we celebrate a football win, $10,000 in damages for a team that finished 8th in the nation that year. Oddly I also stumbled upon a video that gave me some hope out of Penn State today, by a teacher I had a class with my freshman year:

Sam was one of the first to point out how out of control The US military is, and his views on perspective distorting reality truly did influence me despite the fact his other views often made me pull my hair out. As a modern citizen you have the power to research what is being portrayed as truth, or alternatively foam at the mouth screaming when commanded to by Big Brother.

More why Osama’s death is little more than a publicity stunt:
Osama’s death ‘a good career move’?
Osama’s Dead: does this make us any safer?

If we are going to emulate every block of people who hold a grudge against the US we may as well give up now because that kind of behavior goes a circuitous route until it destroys everyone.

I don’t think enough Americans recognize how terrifying we seem globally. Banking on military might to secure our national power is a very short sighted strategy. Regardless of our opinion on the matter, power is ultimately equilibrating across the globe. As the playing fields level, I personally would prefer to live in a nation that deals internationally with diplomacy first.
