In Paul We Trust

I jumped on the chance to play in the large international sandbox that is Paul the Psychic Octopus’ Fan Page. I also jumped on the chance to ruffle some feathers (as I am apt to do).

Click & Note that the only response was umm Why? (the actual answer was: because I envisioned it and could share it)
Not only did no one take offense to Paul as Buddha, but because no one took offense, no antagonists show up to argue with them. I don’t think people who like to flip out publicly on heated issues realize that there are sharks on the internet who thrive on making people like them upset. It would seem to me that orthodox Buddhists either have a disproportionate distaste for the world’s favorite cephalopod, or maybe they know how to take a joke?
I started with St Paul and was surprised so many people took it personally, as it was just as much Spiderman (Spidey Sense Waves) as it was Saint Paul. I apologize if I offended anyone’s religious beliefs, but I also wanted to point out that there are plenty of belief systems out there that don’t encourage aggression towards people who don’t agree with your beliefs. In short, it’s a joke, and I am not going to force anyone to laugh. If people didn’t react, people like me wouldn’t stir the pot. That’s probably why there’s 5-6 Christianity themed Paul renderings on the page versus my lone Buddhist submission.
